Yummy lunch!

After many, many days today I made Poori and Saagu. It’s all cloudy now and has been raining the whole night. To top it there are strong cold winds. Perfect weather for hot pooris. I’d been wanting to make saagu for a long time now. My mum makes yummy saagu. It’s basically a mix vegetable curry.

Saagu was made this way:
Assorted boiled vegetables 2 cups – I used carrots, beans, green peas, potatoes and cauliflower.
Finely chopped onions and tomatoes – 2 each
Dry masala – 1tsp cumin seeds, 1tsp coriander seeds, 2 tsp fried gram dal, 1/2inch cinnamon stick. Dry roast all these (except fried gram dal). Powder these together and keep aside.
In a pan heat oil, fry onions and then tomatoes. Now add the boiled vegetables. Add salt as per taste and finally the powdered masala. Add 1-2 tsp of masala first, check the taste and then add more if required.
You may need to add water if you like it more gravy like. You also need to mash the veggies well using a masher. Let it cook well for 5-6 minutes on low heat. Serve hot with those hot pooris.

Wait! Don’t go…

We haven’t had dessert yet. I don’t even remember how long it had been since I made fruit salad with custard. So, chop, chop, chopped some fruits (I used apples, banana, grapes, pomegranate). Mixed it with custard and kept it the fridge for a while before we devoured it. Yummmmmmy!!!! Gotta go take a nap now.. Here’s a bowl for you too.2013-02-16 13.26.18

ETA: A big hug for the Big Man for helping me chop the veggies and fruits.
